Feels a little odd. I'm not as available around here as I once was, and it's been pointed out to me that there might be entire cycles of new members who have no idea who I am. So, for the uninitiated, Hi, I'm the guy that started this place. You can call me M.
The folks that do know me from back then -- and I know you're all lurking around, because no one ever really leaves -- can tell you of all the times I've talked about the next iteration of this board. I talked about it so many times that I had to stop talking about it, because at some point I turned into Chicken Little. And also because my exuberance and enthusiasm about all the awesome stuff we were cooking up often cost us, in as much as the public leaking of our ideas and plans often lead to other lurkers stealing them, and, much to their own credit, successfully realizing them while our own stuff never got off the ground.
Shit happens. People go on with their lives. Many times we were on the cusp of opening "Pad 3.0" or whatever the running code name was at various points, when disaster struck. At different stops along the way we were just about ready to open when our coder disappeared, or our graphic designer left, or things went South with some other key component. Years were lost when we did so much customization on an existing software package that it was essentially an entirely new product, and if we'd opened the board that way all our hard work would be owned by the company in question. So we scrapped it completely and started fresh. Now it runs on our own code, and if you dig it, drop us a note and maybe we can set you up with an unrelated board of your own.
By "We", of course, I mostly mean "Riggs." This board might be called "The MousePad," -- mostly for posterity's sake, at this point -- but it's all Riggs' world we're all living in. Soon you'll all visit the new place and see the cool shit it can do and hopefully be pleased, but you probably won't even realize that the surface hasn't been scratched until Riggs drops the next phase and blows your mind all over again.
Not everything we've had up our sleeves is implemented yet, and there are still some kinks to work out in what you will see, I'm sure. But understand: this was the work of a single person, coding in his free time, over the span of...well, use your imagination. It is an awe-inspiring achievement, and if you're wearing a hat on your head you need to stop reading this and tip it to the man.
He'll kill me for saying that, though, so let's make it our secret.
Instead, the best way you can thank Riggs is by:
A) Using the site, and
B) Providing quality feedback, good and bad.
Because this, as everything we do, is just as much YOUR place as our's. It's a compilation of complaints and suggestions we've gotten about the HITW and MousePad and how they're run over the years, combined with some new ways of doing things that we hope will improve the overall experience.
For example, you wanted a "Guide" to scenes in movies and television. So we've had people -- most especially the AMAZING Feeture Feature, who's dedication cannot be understated -- contributing entries for literally years now. Soon the rest of you will be able to make it the definitive resource of it's type interactively, letting you rate existing entries and add more specific details and information.
That's just one of the more obvious things, but I think it would be fun to let you explore the place and discover the others on your own.
Besides, the most important change here is that starting now, it truly is FOR US, BY US. It used to be a pipe-dream trying to compile a thorough directory of every piece of relevant content of every woman ever created anywhere, ever. But now we can achieve that. Now you can browse the complete archives by Woman more easily, see what's there to save time reposting, and fill in the blanks if you have things no one has seen before. And it will stay up there forever, with every comment and post anyone ever makes, thanking you for it.
Because yes, all your contributions are logged, so you can be recognized for them. Right now all the MousePad posts have been ported over, but once you create your new account, feel free to go back and re-upload them to the new site so you get the credit you deserve for the things you share. In fact, feel free to go back and upload anything you have EVER created and shared. Once you upload a logo, you can even put your name on every vidcap in a set, from 5 to 500. Your clips will automatically be thumbnailed and embedded into posts for people to play. And soon enough you'll have your own page to customize and take pride in, showing off all your work for as long as you have an account.
Today, everyone can be a "Gangster."
I know there's gonna be controversy. Change always is. But if we're serious about making this "OUR" community, then we needed to get people using it and providing opinions to help it evolve. Otherwise it's all just lip service. And when there's consensus that the new place is unequivocally better than YukuPad, this board will be shuttered and bid farewell.
So roll up your sleeves and dive in. The party is just getting started.
This is SkinDig.

so does that mean that the new skindig site will replace
themousepad, and this board here will be shut down?
Pretty pointless starting a topical and/or
interesting thread in there...
